ENVIRONMENT
Guess Where We Are #2
The Greece DLC showcases the breathtaking scenery of Greece's inland areas while also inviting truckers to discover the beauty of some of its islands. We already showed you a little preview of what the capital city will look like and how it's being built by our map designer Aartee.
ENVIRONMENT
Churches and Shrines
Our teams did an excellent job modelling these amazing architectural gems for the Greece DLC while taking inspiration from real-world locations like the Pantocrator Cathedral in Lixouri, the Church of Panagia and the Church of Saint Dionysius in Argostolion. Not only are the churches an incredible part of the country's architecture but they also have a long tradition and is actively in use as almost the entire Greek population is religious.
ENVIRONMENT
Corinth Canal
First, let's go on a brief journey into the history of the place. The Corinth Canal separates the Peloponnese Peninsula and the Greek mainland - at a width of approximately 6 kilometres, it connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf. Its importance is undeniable as plans to build this waterway first occurred in the 6th century BCE but it could not be built because it would be too complicated at the time. It was made possible by the invention of dynamite in the 19th century - the canal was completed in just three years between 1891 and 1893.
ENVIRONMENT
Nature to Admire
With a majority of the country's climate being predominantly Mediterranean, much of Greece is quite dry. However, Greece also has a wide range of micro-climates and local variations, due to its mountainous terrain. This in turn allows a wide range of vegetation to flourish in Greece, which our team has worked hard to represent in this DLC, including cypress, palm, and oleander trees and, of course, large olive orchards that exist throughout the country.
INDUSTRY
Cement Plant in Thessaloniki
Located in the northern area of Thessaloniki, the second largest city in Greece, you'll find a pretty sizeable Cement Plant! Built and established in 1962, the plant supports 300+ direct and indirect jobs for the local economy and beyond. Its virtual creation in the Greece DLC has been built by our talented teams and features custom Landmark models, a detailed layout, and a recreation of one of the largest-scaled artistic mural projects in Europe, which spans across many of the buildings in the plant.
INDUSTRY
Industry & Custom Depots
Our researchers did an amazing job in finding out the kinds of new depots and industries that would be ideal for this southern map expansion. After some deliberation, we decided to add a new food factory, cotton processing factory, olive farm, marble processing factory, and a warehouse facility.
CITIES
Building Athens with Aartee
Greece is a beautiful country, especially in terms of landscape. There are so many beautiful places that sometimes, I wasn't able to decide what to put into the map. Also, I don't always get the opportunity to work on something coastal. My only regret is that there are very few monuments from antiquity left in Greece. unfortunately, time has taken everything away and so we can't have those in our map.
ROAD NETWORK
Highways & Junctions
Truckers will be able to get to Greece through six different border crossings. We have already shown you three of those in this blog. After arriving into the country, players will be able to travel in all directions thanks to multiple highways that we have recreated for this map expansion - the A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, and A8
